Hoping for a class 3 Patient!!

Goals for Today:
1. Get to scaling one quad
2. Not have to do a retake on BWX
Today I had a patient coming in who I knew hadn't been to the dentist in a really long time, and who had some health problems. So I knew that health history was going to take a long time, which it did almost 45 min, because he is on so many different medications. As I was going through the HH I noticed he had not been to the dentist in almost 20 years, so I just kept thinking oh this is good he probably is going to be a class three. So it finally comes time for x rays. My BWX were good other than, I didn't get the very distal of one of the 2nd molars, which was okay. Then we went back for the OD check and with the probe depths and everything in the anteriors she recommend that I should go take two anterior PA's, cuz she thought there might be bone loss, which there was, but the anteriors were the only places for bone loss. So my patient ended up being a class 1B on top and a class 2 on the bottom. Dang it! I was really hoping for a class three. You would think if someone hadn't been to the dentist in over 20 years, they we be a higher class. ha ha. Wishful thinking on my part. So I got through OHI and re scheduled the patient to come back the following clinic day to start scaling.

CrAzY LaDy!!

Goals for today:
1. Try and clean all 4 quads
Well today I was suppose to have a lady from a couple weeks ago, who had the long health history, who got sick from wearing the glasses, and who didn't stop talking. Oh did I mention that she thought I was her best friend, and we had a big long discussion about how one of the most frustrating things being a student in the DH program is when your patients don't show up, and she said that she would never do that to me!!! Well she did. I called my patient the Friday before her appt. I left her and message and reminded her, then shortly after she called back and left me a message, saying how excited she was to come see me to tell me she got back together with her husband and things were great, and was excited to talk to me while she got her teeth clean. Well things changed Monday morning as she called an hour before and let me know that a dentist in her ward is going to finish her cleaning and fix her cavities for free!! What? Are you kidding me!! I was a little ticked and panicked. Who else was I going to find on such short notice? My husband! So I call my husband to see if he can leave work and come, which he could, but he told me to try calling my patient and tell her that I would pay for her to come, that I needed her for my requirements. So I do just that, I call my patient and tell her that I will pay for her,and that I really need her come. Well that didn't go over so well. She freaked out on me, saying she would never come back again, and that it took to long, and on on about different things. So anyways my husband was able to come in. I was able to finish cleaning off the left side of his mouth and I was able to pass off my selective polish PE. Then I was able to do a sealant on Jen's little brother. So the day turned out really well, just not what I had expected.
Goals for today:
1. Get through the OD and scale one quad.
Today was very successful, my patient was so nice and easy going, and best of all he didn't have any health concerns. We made it through the health history, then we were off to take x rays. Well today I decided to use the shick system since I haven't used it yet and I absolutely hate it, I figured i get it out of the way. Then after taking four bwx I had to retake two of them, dang it! We retake the x rays, then we were off to probe his mouth and get an OD check. Well me only seeing patients who have been 1B's, thought my patient today was a 1B as well. I really couldn't see any boneloss on his x rays, or a lot of calculus on they x rays either. So as instructor Wold asks me what class he was I said a 1B, and she told me she would have to disagree she thought he was a class 2 on the lowers and class 5 on the uppers! Well I felt like an idiot. Then she explained to me why he was these specific classes and it made more sense ha ha. Well I was able to get scaling on the upper right, which was a little scary because it was a class five and I didn't know what to do. ha ha I was concerned because I didn't know if you cleaned a class five the same way that you clean a class 1B? Anyways it all work out any was fine. I didn't miss any calculus, which was awesome.

My Lucky Husband!

Goals for today:
1. To take a pano
2. to pass off anterior and posterior scaling
Wow today was quite the day. First off I went to take the pano, which I was nervous about anyways. Then I finally got the machine set up with film in place, bring my husband back take the pano, then I go to develop the xray and there was no film in it :(. I had checked before the appt to see if there was film in it and I guess I felt the intensifying screen instead of the actual film. Ugh! Talk about frustrating. Then my instructor was behind, so I had to show the pano to Pro. Costly, who found something of concern near tooth # 19 and had me take a PA. So wow, quite the Xray experience today. I finally made it to scaling, and was able to pass off my the two PE's I had wanted to. So I did meet my goals today, but it wasn't easy ha ha. Thanks to my husband who keeps supporting me by always being my back up patient.
