Hopeful!

Well here we go again.. Here goes my second attempt to finish my class 3 and I am hoping today that her blood glucose is in normal range. I had my patient bring her own blood glucose moniter so we didn't have any problems. I wasn't too concerned though because I got her physicians consult back saying that I could see her even with a 306 level. So we took her blood glucose and it was in the high 100's I can't remember exactly ( whew what a relief). So I began to clean her teeth and it went very well, my patient actually fell asleep ( huge compliment to me ha ha). I was able to pass off three PE's as well today. She was such a sweetheart and I was so grateful she came back after we had to reschedule her.

An Easy Day!

My goal for today was to finish my class five patient in one visit... My patient for today was given to me by my peer pal. She didn't have room to put him in her schedule. He is one of her perio maintenance patients. He was right on time and he was so so nice and so easy to work with.He had been in 4 months ago and he already had a ton of calculus on his lower anteriors. I was able to finish all 4 quads which was great, because it gave me some extra quads of a class IV.

No if's, ands, or buts!!

Today I have one goal and one goal only and that is to finish my patient in one appointment.... Today started out very well my patient was actually 10 min early. So I was able to give him his health history in the waiting room. Another thing I had going for me is that he was completely healthy, he had nothing I had to write a novel about ( which is extremely awesome). Then I was able to take x rays with out any retakes. Then I was able to do OHI and go right into scaling, Which was awesome and I was able to finish in ONE appointment. It made me so excited. It is a good feeling when you can start a patient and finish in one appointment. My patient was extremely nice and he was very concerned about the health of his teeth. He wanted to know if there was anything he could work on to make them better, which made me very excited as well. Being able to teach patients something about their teeth and them being so concerned and willing to do anything to make them better is so rewarding to me. I love the feeling of me helping my patients.

On Time!!

My goal for today was was to finish cleaning cleaning 3 quads and get done two sealants. Today I was having my patient come from last week who was 45 min late. Needless to say I was way worried to see if he was going to be on time today, because I needed to get a lot done and Wednesdays are our shorter days in clinic. My patient ended up coming right at 8:00 which was awesome. I was able to finish cleaning three quads and pass off my ultrasonic PE, the Diagnodent and the Sealant PE. Today was great. I was able to accomplish what I had in mind for the day!

Stressed!!

Today in clinic I had the goal of me being able to scale four quads on my class 3 patient... Well as we all know clinic does not go according to plan. So here it goes, my class three pt came in today and I was going to start scaling, we finished her OD last appointment. My patient is diabetic and has some other health concerns as well. Last appt her blood glucose level was a little bit out of range, and so I tested it again today to make sure everything was normal. Well to our surprise her reading ended up being 306! Well as well all know that is way way out of range. So I show instructor Vinning and he tells me there is no possible way I can see her today and that I am going to have to do a physicians consult ( yeah me), so I took her blood glucose again using a different monitor. It was still way high reading 285. My patient doesn't speak very good English either, so I had to call her daughter and get the name of her physician to see if I can hurry and get a hold of her Dr. Well no such luck at getting a hold of her Dr. they were on lunch, so I decided to reschedule my patient for a different day.
So now I am freaking out because I don't know who I am going to call to come in on such short notice, we lucky for me I have the best pod ever and Sierra happen to have two kids scheduled and let me see one of them. She is so so nice. So I was able to a cute 3 year old girl today and clean her teeth. The day couldn't of turned out better.

Finally found a Patient!

Goals for today:
1. FINISH A 1B IN TODAY'S APPOINTMENT!
Well I learned yesterday, that it is extremely hard to communicate to a spanish speaking patient. Needless to say, I was without a patient last night, and I was extremely stressed. I tried calling everyone I could possibly think of,but no one could come. Needless to say at 9pm last night I found a patient! Kristin was thoughtful enough to give me one of her patients, because she has two! Whew! That was a huge relief, I don't think I have ever been more relieved in my life.
So at 8:30 this morning I am still waiting for my patient who was suppose to be at the clinic by 8:00. I kept trying to call his house and I couldn't get a hold of anyone, finally Kristin tries calling because maybe the patient will recognize her number, and a little kid answers and lets us know my pt lost his wallet this morning, but he is coming. So at 8:45 my patient finally comes. So I was a little stressed. I was able to get through more than I thought. I was able to scale one quad, which made me really happy, and I was able to pass off my ultrasonic PE! So it turned out well, but I think if my patient would of been on time, I could of finished him in one appt! It turned out well though!

A Class 3 Patient!!

Goals for today:
1. Get through the Health History, and Pass of my Blood Glucose PE
2. Have no retakes on Xrays
3. Pass off intra oral camera
Today I had a lady who came in who had a lot of health problems so I knew her health history was going to take me awhile ( just my luck again another patient who's health history is going to take me forty min). I knew before my patient came in that she had diabetes, so I had my blood glucose test ready so I could pass it off when it was time. So that was lucky on my part! So I can get that out of the way as far as PE's go! Then of course my patient is on like five different medications and she doesn't know what each medication is associated with so she pulls out all five bottles from her purse and leaves it up to me to figure out what medication belongs to what health condition. (Lucky Me, I don't think I would mind if I wasn't on a short time schedule, but every min. counts in clinic). Then it came time to pass off the blood glucose test. I take her blood glucose and it was way high, 238, which is way scary, but she took it earlier in the day and said it wasn't that high, and she told us that her A1c was 7.1. This was a good experience for me, because I haven't worked with anyone who has diabetes yet. Then it came time for x rays, and they turned out perfect, no need for retakes Yahoo! As I was looking at my x rays, I noticed there was a lot of visible calculus, a furcation and bone loss. I just kept thinking this is a good sign keeping my fingers crossed for a class three. Then as I moved onto probing I had a lot of bleeding and a lot of deep probe depths. Then it came time for the OD check. I was able to talk my instructor into a class three, all four quads! Yahoo! That was a big relief for me! My only problem is, is that I felt way bad because someone, had given me this patient a couple weeks before and she doesn't have a class three patient yet :( So I feel awful about that!
