Final Days of Clinic :)

This post it going to be about my final 3 days in clinic that went extremely well and they were really relaxing. One of the days I had my little brother come in and I was able to take 4 PA's on him since I have been a little bit behind on PA's throughout the semester. I was also able to pass off air powder polishing and do a sealant as well. Kole didn't really like the air powder polisher , but that is okay, who does? That is what little brothers are for. Jen was also able to pass off air powder polishing on him as well. I'm glad we could both get our PE's out of the way on him.
My second to last day of clinic I saw my awesome peer pal Karen! She has been so great to me throughout the year and I wish her all the best luck. I was able to take 5 PA's on her. Whew, my last ones. Dang PA's! Then I was able to hurry and clean her teeth. She was a great patient ha ha, I appreciate her coming in for me. My last patient of the semester was my sweet mom. I was grateful I was able to clean her teeth as well. She has quite a bit of recession and I was very grateful to teach her that she should be using an extra soft toothbrush and teach her not to force her floss in and out like she does. It was fun to have her come, and to hear her tell me how good I did and how clean her teeth felt.
I have learned a lot throughout clinic this past semester and I hope that I will be able to remember it all through the summer. I can't wait to have more fun experiences and to learn so much more. It has been a great year and I can't believed I survived my 1st year of dental hygiene school!

Finally!

Today my goals consisted of being able to finish a patient who I finally got to come back by 9:30 and also take a FMX series of Xrays on my mom. So I finally was able to get a hold of a girl who is a student here at WSU that I saw at the very beginning of the semester and only got to OHI. She was extremely busy and I didn't know If I was going to be able to get her to come back. Well she finally responded to a text I sent her and told me she could come any wednesday, but she would just have to be done by 9:30. So I scheduled her and knew it would be a challenge getting her done by 9:30 since she had braces. I ended up getting done right at 9:30 which was awesome and she was very grateful.
I then had my mom come in so I could take a FMX series on her since I am so behind on my PA's it went very well and I only had to do one retake on a BWX, which I thought was great. All in all it was a great clinic session and I got a lot accomplished. A few more steps then I have met my requirements! Wahoo

Nephews :)

Today I had my two nephews Jace and Nash come in to get their teeth cleaned. I cleaned Jace's teeth first and he did very well of course! :) I also was able to take a pano on him, which I think he thought it was very cool. I also let him help me develop it, which he thought was even better. He was a great help and I am so glad he came in to help me meet my requirements, ( he even skipped out on going dirt biking to come help me). Then I cleaned Nash's teeth and he did so so good for only being four. He loved the silly straw, I think it was his favorite part. He also had a lot of sugar bugs on his teeth and I told him that the sugar bugs make the cavities. He felt kind of bad that he had some many sugar bugs and he told me that next time he came to get his teeth cleaned he wouldn't have any on his teeth. So needless to say it was a fun relaxing day in clinic for me.

Hopeful!

Well here we go again.. Here goes my second attempt to finish my class 3 and I am hoping today that her blood glucose is in normal range. I had my patient bring her own blood glucose moniter so we didn't have any problems. I wasn't too concerned though because I got her physicians consult back saying that I could see her even with a 306 level. So we took her blood glucose and it was in the high 100's I can't remember exactly ( whew what a relief). So I began to clean her teeth and it went very well, my patient actually fell asleep ( huge compliment to me ha ha). I was able to pass off three PE's as well today. She was such a sweetheart and I was so grateful she came back after we had to reschedule her.

An Easy Day!

My goal for today was to finish my class five patient in one visit... My patient for today was given to me by my peer pal. She didn't have room to put him in her schedule. He is one of her perio maintenance patients. He was right on time and he was so so nice and so easy to work with.He had been in 4 months ago and he already had a ton of calculus on his lower anteriors. I was able to finish all 4 quads which was great, because it gave me some extra quads of a class IV.

No if's, ands, or buts!!

Today I have one goal and one goal only and that is to finish my patient in one appointment.... Today started out very well my patient was actually 10 min early. So I was able to give him his health history in the waiting room. Another thing I had going for me is that he was completely healthy, he had nothing I had to write a novel about ( which is extremely awesome). Then I was able to take x rays with out any retakes. Then I was able to do OHI and go right into scaling, Which was awesome and I was able to finish in ONE appointment. It made me so excited. It is a good feeling when you can start a patient and finish in one appointment. My patient was extremely nice and he was very concerned about the health of his teeth. He wanted to know if there was anything he could work on to make them better, which made me very excited as well. Being able to teach patients something about their teeth and them being so concerned and willing to do anything to make them better is so rewarding to me. I love the feeling of me helping my patients.

On Time!!

My goal for today was was to finish cleaning cleaning 3 quads and get done two sealants. Today I was having my patient come from last week who was 45 min late. Needless to say I was way worried to see if he was going to be on time today, because I needed to get a lot done and Wednesdays are our shorter days in clinic. My patient ended up coming right at 8:00 which was awesome. I was able to finish cleaning three quads and pass off my ultrasonic PE, the Diagnodent and the Sealant PE. Today was great. I was able to accomplish what I had in mind for the day!
